WordPress SEO Audit You Own, Not a Sales Call

Every free audit you have been offered is a scorecard attached to a pitch, and you still do not know what is wrong with your site. You get the diagnosis in writing, prioritized, specific enough for any developer to act on, whether you hire us afterward or not.

The same diagnostic sequence that took a client site from ranking for nothing in January to ten keywords on page one by August.

What a WordPress SEO Audit Service Delivers

A WordPress SEO audit service is a written diagnosis of why a WordPress site is not ranking, covering crawl and index state, on-page and site architecture, content quality and coverage, and authority signals, with every finding prioritized and specified precisely enough for a developer to act on it. The deliverable is a document you keep, not a scorecard on a sales call. One audited client went from ranking for nothing on 21 January 2026 to ten commercial keywords on page one by 23 August 2026.

Why a Free Scanner Cannot Tell You What Is Wrong

Automated scanners are useful and we run them too. What they produce is a list of conditions: this page has no meta description, that image has no alt text, your score is 68. What they cannot produce is a diagnosis, because a diagnosis requires knowing which of the forty things a scanner flagged is actually suppressing your rankings and which forty-first thing it never looked for.

A real example from an audit we ran this year: every scanner reported the site as healthy, because the pages a scanner reaches were being served from cache. Uncached requests returned server errors, which is what Googlebot was receiving, and the site had been dropped from the index for eight weeks. No tool on the market reports that, because no tool asks the question.

The Rank Gap Scan™: Four Layers, and Why the Order Matters

The audit is our Rank Gap Scan™, run on the Rank Intelligence Engine™, and it moves through four layers in a fixed order.

  1. Crawl and index. What Google is actually served, what it has indexed, what it has dropped and why. Nothing below this layer matters if this layer is broken, which is why it is first and why it is the layer most audits skip.
  2. Architecture and on-page. Which page owns which search intent, where two of your pages compete for the same phrase, and what your titles, headings and internal links are telling Google about your priorities.
  3. Content. What the pages that outrank you cover that yours do not, where your content is thin against its competition, and which existing pages are close enough to page one to be worth the work.
  4. Authority. Who links to you, whether those links help or hurt, and what the sites ranking above you have that you do not.

What Arrives, and What You Can Do With It

The Authority Build Map™: a written report and a task workbook. The report explains what is wrong and why it matters in plain terms. The workbook lists every fix as a discrete task with the exact page, the exact element, the change to make and how to verify it afterward, ordered so the fixes that unblock other fixes come first.

You own both. Hand them to your own developer, hand them to another agency, or hand them back to us. We say that plainly because an audit you cannot use without buying the retainer is not an audit, it is a proposal with charts.

What the Diagnosis Led To

Every figure below comes from daily rank tracking, names its keyword, its search volume and its dates, and can be verified in Google today. Clients are described by what they do rather than by name.

A cell tower lease consulting firm serving the United States

Tracking opened 21 January 2026 with the site ranking for nothing. Ten commercial keywords entered the index on 8 June 2026 between positions 5 and 18, and by 23 August 2026 all ten were on page one: telecom towers consultants at 1, cell tower lease consultants near me from 5 to 1, and cell tower lease consultants from 18 to 4 against 480 monthly searches.

A bathtub refinishing company in San Diego County

As of 25 August 2026, 47 of 54 tracked keywords rank on page one and 21 rank in the top three, including bathtub reglazing near me at position 3 against 14,800 monthly searches and tub reglazing at position 2 against 4,400.

A paint protection film installer in Surrey, England

After the client’s listing entered the index on 30 July 2026, terms holding position 1 grew from 56 to 80 within four weeks while the head terms climbed from 2 to 1. On the organic side, expel paint protection went from unranked to position 7 against 18,100 monthly searches.

When an Audit Is the Wrong Purchase

If your site is three months old with twelve pages, you do not need a diagnosis, you need pages. If you already know exactly what is wrong and simply need it done, buy the work rather than the report. And if your site has never been indexed at all, that is usually one technical fault rather than four layers of findings, and a thirty-minute conversation will locate it for free.

Who Performs the Audit

Phil Belleville, practicing search engine optimization since 1995 and engineering WordPress sites since 2003. The audit is not run by a scanner and summarized by an account manager. When you ask why a finding is ranked first, you are asking the person who ranked it.

What Happens After

Three paths, and all three are fine with us. Implement the Authority Build Map™ yourself. Hand it to your developer, who will find it easier to work from than most specifications they receive. Or engage us to implement it under Rank Momentum™, in which case the scan fee comes off the first month and the 45-day ranking movement guarantee applies from the start.

What It Costs

Audit pricing is set at the scope conversation, because a twelve-page brochure site and a four-hundred-page store are not the same job and pretending otherwise produces either an overcharge or a shallow report. What is fixed: the fee is stated before any work begins, it comes off the first month if you continue, and you own the deliverable either way.

Ongoing engagements run at published rates: Silver $1,500, Gold $2,500 and Platinum $5,000 and up per month, with no contract after the first six months.

WordPress SEO Audit: Questions We Get Asked

Can I use the audit without hiring you?

Yes. The report and the task workbook are yours. They are written so your own developer or another agency can implement them without talking to us, and people do exactly that. An audit you cannot act on without buying the retainer is a proposal, not an audit.

How is this different from a free SEO audit tool?

A scanner lists conditions. It tells you a page has no meta description and gives you a score. It cannot tell you which of its forty flags is actually costing you rankings, and it cannot look for the problem it was never programmed to check. We use scanners as one input and then diagnose.

How long does a WordPress SEO audit take?

Most audits are delivered within a week of getting access. Sites with large page counts or complex ecommerce structures take longer, and we tell you the timeline at the scope conversation rather than after you have paid.

What access do you need?

Read access to Google Search Console and Google Analytics, and enough site access to see the theme, the plugin stack and the server responses. We can run a limited external audit without any access, but the crawl and index layer, which is the layer that most often holds the answer, needs Search Console.

Does the audit cover Core Web Vitals and speed?

Yes, as part of the crawl and index layer and the on-page layer, measured on Google field data rather than a single lab test. Where speed turns out to be the primary constraint, the report says so and prices that work separately rather than folding it into a general retainer.

Will you tell me if my site does not need much work?

Yes, and it happens. Some sites are technically sound and simply have no content covering what buyers search for, which is a content problem rather than an audit problem. Saying so costs us a retainer and keeps the report honest.

My rankings disappeared suddenly. Is an audit the right first step?

Usually yes, because sudden losses are almost always one identifiable cause rather than many: a server fault serving errors to Googlebot, a stray noindex, a sitemap that stopped resolving, or an algorithmic demotion. The audit sequence starts with exactly those checks.

Do you audit WooCommerce stores?

Yes. Stores add product and category architecture, faceted navigation that can generate thousands of crawlable URLs, checkout performance and product schema. The four layers are the same; the store simply has more surface in each of them.

Start With the Scope Conversation

Thirty minutes, free, no commitment, and no scorecard. We establish what your site is, what you already know, and what the audit would actually cover, and you get a fee before anything begins.
